Blogging – Hosting your own or let them host it in their server?
When I started blogging, I went right to Blogger (blogspot) then I discovered WordPress and I liked it better, it’s (in my opinion) easier to use and it offers more features, the only drawback is that they don’t allow “affiliate advertising” if your blog is hosted in their servers.. makes sense, I mean, you have a free service, free server and you want to profit from it? Anyway…
If you are posting and referring to your affiliates links, or replicated website links you will get a warning because they consider all that “spamming”, if you fail to remove your links (and again, that is why you started blogging in the first place, to drive traffic to your replicated website) you run the risk of your blog getting deleted.
The Solution? Hosting your own blog!
Maybe you are thinking, “if I have to pay for hosting my blog I better start a website and even add my products so my visitors can buy from there…” if you don’t have a company provided (replicated) website, that is the best option, but if you do, I would choose hosting a blog here’s why…
- It’s easier to update a blog
- It’s easier to optmize a blog for search engines
- A blog is interactive (if you allow people to leave comments)
- Search Engines LOVE blogs because they provide fresh content
- People love blogs, they are less scary than a “selling” website; but as you “talk”, your visitors will feel more comfortable with the idea of buying from you
- You can be yourself, it’s a little more personal than a static website
Hosting your own blog is super easy and affordable, I am using www.HostGator.com to host all my websites and my blog. I pay $9.95 a month (there are even more economic plans) and I can host unlimited domains (you will need to buy your domains somewhere else, I purchase all my domains at www.GoDaddy.com)
GoDaddy and HostGator make it super easy to have your blog up and running, just change nameservers, make a few fantastic clicks using Fantastico, add a cool theme (template) that fits your market or personality, and voila! You can start posting in less then 20 minutes. Think about it.
