Professional appearance for the work at home professionals

On Monday I was at the IRS office, I started talking to the woman in line in front of me… turns out she’s been a network marketer since 2005, a very successful one, she earns a monthly 5 figure income and she’s the perfect example of how we should present ourselves and our business if we work from home.

It is a common debate topic in message boards, forums and social networking sites, what should we wear, what should we say, what should be do when we work from home. Some people say it doesn’t matter SINCE  you work from home, other people say it matters.

I was one that thought that it didn’t matter… until I met this gal. Watching her, made me realize how important it is to look professional at ALL times, in ALL forums (and I’ll explain) and made me think that maybe I could be stunting my growth and success because I’m too casual for my own (and my business’) good.

Professional appearance for the work at home professionals

* Although NO business suit is required, if you know what to wear on “Casual Fridays” from the corporate world, that is how you should dress if you go out of your door.

* It doesn’t matter if you are going to the supermarket for milk or to drug store for aspirin you need to be dressed for success. Make sure your clothes are clean and elegantly casual.

* No wrinkles, no stains, no sweatpants or sweatshirts, no hems that need repairing, no discolored or torn shirts, no flip flops or dirty sneakers.

* A simple pair of jeans can be dressed up if you change your favorite Metallica t-shirt for a nice button shirt and change your sneakers for shoes or sandals (if you’re a woman of course).

* Pay attention to your face. Shave and/or trim if you’re a man and wear some makeup if you’re a woman. I don’t really like to wear make up, but some powder, mascara and lipstick can make a huge difference in your look.

* Your hair is the frame to your face. There’s no explanation for dirty hair, long overdue haircut, and roots needing retouching… Start with clean hair and use some products to make it look shiny and healthy.

Remember that your network is out there! It’s everywhere where you’ll meet new people who might be interested in your products or business opportunity and you need to look well put together at ALL times.

People will respect you more if they see that you take your business seriously. People will want to know more about how they can become home-based business professionals just like YOU.
