Working your “list” of prospects

When you join a business opportunity, or start a home based business, one of the first things you need to do is create a list of people who you want to tell about your new business.

Depending on the business opportunity, direct sales, network marketing or MLM you join, they will advice you to make a list of at least 100 names.

I agree with the pro’s that the more names you have the better, but this is not about making the list, I’m assuming you already have your list and that you are looking at the list scared on how to work the list, afraid of all the no’s, and avoiding to be rejected.

This is the advice I received a while ago:

  1. When you’re making “your list” of people to approach, write an “A” besides the name of those you are SURE will take a look at your business and show some interest.
  2. Write a “B” besides the name of those you are not sure are going to be interested.
  3. Write a “C” besides the name of those you are SURE are going to laugh at you when you tell them about your new business.

Then, START working your List with those that have a “C”!!!

If you start working your list with those that you ARE SURE are going to say no and that they were all going to laugh at you when you talked about your business, some of them will take a look at the business opportunity and maybe you’ll get the surprise that some join your business.

You will NOT be disappointed because you ALREADY expected them to say NO, and you’ll be fired up because some actually said yes and probably some said no to the opportunity, but chose to become your customer.

Keep working your list up with those that have a “B” and ending with those that have an “A”.

By the time you get to the “A” List, you will have some team members, some customers, you have already practiced what you had to say, you’ve dealt with common questions and objections so you will be more relaxed and confident when talking to your prospects about your business.

This will make it easier for them to see you as a leader, successful business owner and they will say YES more easily :)

C’mon, pick up that piece of paper, the “list” won’t bite you this time, you just have to look at it in a different way… and when you’re finished, START another list! ;)
